Winless Golden Panthers Falter again 41-21
FIU came into this game needing a win, and needing it badly. 0-5 is never the way you want to start a season in any sport, but it was the fate of the Golden Panthers today as they took on a red hot Owls squad. When QB Ben Burch is playing this well, there is no doubt that the Owls are going to win. The defense also made great plays, and great stops drive after drive. The key to the defense being successful was nickle cornerback Roddy Heinz. 2 Key interceptions made him defensive player of the game. This guy just did not quit, he was constantly on his man, and making plays as you saw. He is what we need in order to be successful and stop the pass this season.
Now onto our strong offensive showing, starting off with field general Ben Burch, because today, was just his day. A QB rating of 186.3 just summed up his day as efficient. He made spectacular passes to a bunch of different receivers, and without his two starting receivers who went down with injuries. He completed 16 of his 30 attempts for 318 yards and 4 touchdowns, and if that does not get you hyped, he didn't throw a single pick!!! I mean this guy was dissecting this FIU defense like it was a simulation defense. Was this the starting defense, or just the practice squad defense? If Ben Burch can have many more games like today, there is no doubt in anybodies mind, that we can not only win, but receive a bowl bid, and win the Sun Belt Conference title. But it all counts on the arm of BIG BEN!!
OH and last but not least, Ben Burch caught Devron Tucker for a big 83 yard Touchdown Strike. That is a new NCAA record, the same NCAA record that Air Force set on the PGCC defense just the week before. AMAZING!!
